Cultural observation

I’m on the verge of conquering jet lag after finally having a decent sleep, but I’m still writing this fairly exhausted. Granted in saying that, if you’re not exhausted or lacking energy after a day in New York; you’re doing something wrong.

Being joined by my good friend Harry has been fantastic, if only for a few more days. Seeing a Knicks game was definitely something I wanted to tick off the bucket list, and the atmosphere did not disappoint. Dunks from the explosive LaVine, Wiggins, and an absolute poster from Kuz was a highlight. Not a bad first night out in the big apple hey.

I know I talked about having momentum and thriving on the move, but today was pretty awesome to stop, observe and think about the work on display at the Museum of Modern Art, or Moma. Some seriously impressive exhibitions in sculpture, film, prints and paintings were fantastic to slowly meander through. The culture of this city permeates every building, piece of pavement, brought to life by the characters we meet every day, some too interesting to be mere human beings. But then again, they’re New Yorkers; a totally different breed of character.

We’re heading out again and I’m keen to see a new side of the city in the East Village, particularly when the nightlife is so renowned, mainly when it comes to students due to the proximity to NYU. Quite often in movies or other forms of media, stories that take part in Manhattan have exceptional characters, but the most interesting character is the city itself. Every block stimulates the senses and poses new questions for me to ponder over. I’m sure tonight will pose some more thoughts, granted they could blur a little after sampling some American pale ales. All in the name of cultural research right?
